The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI) on behalf of the Arizona Immunization Program Office (AIPO), Department of Health Services, Phoenix, AZ is seeking a full-time Immunization Nurse Educator.

 

This position is responsible for providing immunization education and health awareness to healthcare professionals and individuals within Arizona to promote childhood, adolescent and adult immunizations. Job tasks include providing consultation via phone and email for vaccine scheduling, administration and safety questions; providing educational support and community outreach to meet AIPO strategic and annual plans;  facilitation of AIPO internal and external communication tools and management of the AIPO website; and coordination of the annual ADHS immunization conference.

 

The Health Educator:

  • Reports directly to the Immunization Services Manager, AIPO
  • Interacts with the AIPO Management Team (Office Chief, Medical Director, Program Managers, CDC Public Health Advisor and the entire AIPO team)
  • Interacts and communicates with other ADHS personnel, such as Office of Infectious Disease Surveillance/Epi staff, Public Information Officer and ADHS website team members
  • Interacts and communicates with external partners, such as county health departments, local community immunizers and partners, and The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI)
  • Interacts and communicates with the general public on immunization-related information

 

General Duties

  • Comply with ADHS and AIPO procedures and protocols
  • Conduct oneself with complete professionalism, confidentiality and sensitivity in all interactions with staff, partners, and the public at large
  • Actively participate in the planning and implementing of activities in accordance with AIPO strategic and annual plans and objectives; monitor and evaluate progress at timely intervals
  • Actively participate in various program team meetings
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships
  • Provide complete, accurate and timely statistical and narrative reporting as required
  • Participate in community activities relative to the AIPO and as directed by the Immunization Services Manager
  • Perform additional activities as assigned

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Health Education
    • Provide immunization support and consultation via phone and email to immunization providers, school and child care facilities, general public and internal and external partners
    • Provide guidance on vaccine schedules, administration, requirements, and safety issues
    • Annually review and update existing in-house AIPO health education materials
    • Review TAPI educational materials as needed/requested; make sure ADHS publication criteria is met, and that information is accurate
    • Support and promote TAPI Training on Immunization Practice Strategies (TIPS)
    • Develop and implement a schedule of health education and awareness campaigns for special months (i.e., April is National Infant Immunization Week [NIIW]; May is Women’s Health; August is National Immunization Awareness; October is Child Health Month)
    • Assist with AIPO education campaigns, such as Back to School, Influenza season, and other events

 

  • Community Outreach
    • Actively participate in community organizations which promote the awareness and importance of immunization at all stages of life and are consistent with AIPO strategic and annual plans. Committees include, but are not limited to:
      • TAPI Community Awareness Committee (monthly)
      • TAPI Provider Awareness Committee (bi-monthly, as needed)
      • MCChIP (Maricopa County Childhood Immunization Program)
      • ADHS Zero to Five Taskforce (quarterly)
      • Internal ADHS committees with community focus
    • In conjunction with TAPI, develop a calendar of known key community health fairs, conferences and professional organization gatherings for which AIPO and TAPI can promote immunization education and awareness; attend those opportunities which best promote AIPO goals and objectives
    • Present, when requested, as various educational conferences and events which pertain to immunization and ADHS messaging

 

  • Communications
    • AIPO Website
      • Collaborate with other AIPO staff to review website, at least quarterly, and ensure that the AIPO Home Page is constantly refreshed and updated (deleting, changing and or adding) both in graphics and content
      • Facilitate needs of the AIPO team with IT/Web Content Administrator
    • Social Media and Press Releases
      • Work with ADHS and external groups to develop current and relevant immunization media messaging for all forms of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter
      • Prepare blog posting as requested
      • Work with the ADHS Public Information Officer and respective ADHS and AIPO team members in the development of public information and press releases
      • In concert with CDC, ADHS and TAPI, develop AIPO health education/awareness communication plan for messaging and activities in support of community immunization campaigns
      • Support County Immunization Coordinators in delivering a cohesive, unified message via a variety of social media options – campaign toolbox
    • Immunications eNewsletter
      • Develop and maintain schedule for eNewsletter to include suggestion of topics
      • Schedule and conduct editorial meetings with program managers and other contributors; develop topics, contributors and deadlines
      • Using Publisher, or other such program, create/design the newsletter, perform initial editing process
      • Facilitate final editing/approval process through Immunization Services Manager and Office Chief
      • Ensure distribution via electronic mail; work with IT to streamline delivery
      • Conduct a readership survey as to quality of past year’s publications as well as recommendations for improvement

 

  • Immunization Services Meetings (ISM)
    • Assist the Immunization Services Manager in coordination of these quarterly meetings with County Health Department Immunization Coordinators
      • Two in-person meetings
      • Two meetings via WebEx (or Go To Meeting)
      • Assist with room reservations, meeting setup, planning and coordination tasks
      • Provide direct support to Immunization Services Manager

 

  • Annual Arizona Immunization Conference – with oversight and assistance from Immunization Services Manager
  • Overall responsibility for developing schedule, program and implementation of the multi-faceted conference as described under cover. Primary areas of activity include: planning and scheduling of agenda, workshops, and speakers; logistics and budget; promotion and use of Cvent registration site; evaluation process and overall coordination of event planning.
  • CDC childhood Immunization Champion Award
    • Organize nomination and selection process
    • Assist with writing of nomination, collection of submittal requirements
    • Final edit/review before sending to CDC
    • Coordinate receipt of award and certificate to be given to TAPI for presentation at their annual awards dinner

Education/Experience:

  • RN and Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; Master’s in Public desirable
  • 2-5 years of experience in nursing, health education or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of child and adult immunization schedules a plus
  • Experience (or ability to quickly learn) with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher), webpages, use of applications and social media tools

Certificates and Licenses:

 

Must have valid Arizona Driver’s license, own private reliable transportation, and have current automotive insurance as required by state law.

 

Salary Range: $51,000 – $55,000 annually based on qualifications.
