AACHC Program OverviewPhysician Recruiting ProgramThe Physician Recruitment Program works in collaboration with each member health center, the Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health (SEARCH) Program and the Arizona Department of Health Services, to locate and place healthcare professionals into rural and urban health centers across the state. The health care provider Recruitment Program, through the Arizona Association of Community Health Centers (AACHC), has been instrumental in placing exceptional primary care physicians and allied health professionals into member health centers throughout the state. With over 100 health care sites located in designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, the number of people that require care is far greater than the current supply of health professionals can effectively manage. The Director of Physician Recruiting has visited all health center sites and become familiar with the area and the people who work in and utilize the centers. It also ensures the best people are being placed at a center, which produces a winning combination for all involved. The Association intends to expand physician and health professional recruiting in the coming years to meet the needs of health centers throughout the state. Arizona continues to rank among those states with a chronic shortage of health care professionals, dating back for at least the past 30 years. Efforts are underway to expand training opportunities for health care providers throughout the state thanks to the recent actions by Governor Napolitano and the Arizona Legislature in creating plans to build a medical school in the nation's 5th largest city, Phoenix.
