Education Opportunity:
The Heartland Centers for Public Health & Community Capacity Development: Introduction to Emergency Preparedness for All Nurses. This course is designed as an introduction to emergency preparedness for nurses regardless of specialty.
Course Competencies:

Describe the nurses' role in emergency response in a range of emergencies that might arise

Identify limits to own knowledge, skill, and authority, and identify key resource for referring matters that exceed these limits

Recognize unusual events that might indicate an emergency and describe appropriate action

Describe the chain of command in emergency response

Describe his/her functional role(s) in emergency response

Describe the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and its major components

Describe unified management in a multi-agency unified emergency response
