Medicare Cost Reporting for Federally Qualified Health Centers

The Medicare FQHC cost report is a document that is oftentimes confusing for, and misunderstood by, health center management teams.  This session will help participants gain a better understanding of the new Medicare FQHC cost report (Form CMS-224-14) finalized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) during April 2016.  The new Medicare FQHC cost report is utilized for Medicare cost reporting periods beginning on or after October 1, 2014 and is significantly modified from the previous version of the Medicare FQHC cost report (Form CMS-222-92).  In addition, the new Medicare FQHC cost report will take on increased importance as the data collection tool that is being used by CMS to calculate updates to future Medicare FQHC Prospective Payment System (“PPS”) base rates through a FQHC-specific market basket index.

This session will include discussion of the following issues:

  • The importance of Medicare as a payer for FQHCs
  • Walkthrough of the new Medicare FQHC cost report worksheets
  • Medicare FQHC reimbursement “potpourri” related to cost report completion
