Recovery and Medication Assisted Treatment – Dispelling the Myths

Medication can play an important role in recovery.  We will discuss the difference types of pharmacotherapy and the history of opioid addiction with an overview of the three medications used for OUD.  Discussion on the myths, opinions and biases not only from providers but the recovery community at large and how to overcome these issues when supporting recovering with medication.

  1. Understand how stigma affects individuals in recovery, especially on medication
  2. Discuss language and terminology for those with substance use disorders
  3. Debunk the commonly held beliefs and myths around medication and recovery
