Main duties –

The Grant Accountant performs a variety of professional accounting functions involving project budget development, fiscal interpretation and analysis, reconciliations, reviews of multiple accounts and transactions, management of pre- and post-award accounting and reporting, and monitoring compliance with required deliverables.

Grant Accountant Duties Include: 

  • Develop, prepare, and finalize grant proposal budgets, and provide budget justification.
  • Review grant expenditures, advise on post-award spending and commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to fund and revenue.
  • Provides monthly review of expenditures for accuracy of charges and identifies a resolution to problems, including preparation of journal entries when needed.
  • Responsible for grant closeout and submit final reports. Compile information and documents needed for audit inquiries.
  • Provides follow-up for financial expenditures, ensuring that all paperwork is appropriate to each expense to pass a financial audit.  Troubleshoots and resolves problems identified in the reconciliation process.  Interacts with Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Payroll and other relevant departments.
  • Serve as a resource on grant administration and overall technical resource to grant project director.
  • Assist in the budget preparation of the administrative components of proposals within parameters of funder guidelines.

Education –Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration required; 1-3 years of experience with public or privately funded grant administration.

  • Strong analytical and accounting skills; knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Competency in project management.
  • Demonstrated technical skills with MS Office (Excel and Word skills) and with email programs such as Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review a proposal or manage a project with understanding of the overall scope and goal of each sponsored project.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience working with complex spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies.
  • This role is a non-driving position. This position is performed at one location and does not require travel to various Terros Health centers. May be 18 years of age and with less than two years’ driving experience or no driving experience.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card or apply for an Arizona fingerprint clearance card (Level 1) within 7 working days of assuming role.
  • Must pass a TB Test.
