North Country HealthCare will begin a three-year family medicine residency program this summer with four recent medical school graduates.

Through the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will provide $5.4 million over the next four years to sustain the residency, one of a rare breed of medical residencies hosted at a community health center instead of at a hospital.

North Country was one of no more than five recipients of this award this year and will become one of the only residencies in northern Arizona and the first in the nation with required rotations on American Indian reservations, North Country officials said.
